Operating Requirements
and Installation

Operating Requirements

The Edge Portfolio Analyzer will execute on any MVS/XA, MVS/ESA, OS/390, or z/OS system. There are no hardware requirements other than those needed by the operating system itself. The Analyzer requires no system modifications or special authorizations other than read and load access to load modules in designated libraries.

Load modules to be analyzed must reside in a standard Partitioned Data Set (PDS). To analyze modules residing in the new Partitioned Data Set Extended (PDSE) format, use the IEBCOPY utility to copy the library from the PDSE to a temporary PDS.

A sample source file is included with the Analyzer that users may customize to create a table that describes attributes of named Assembler language subroutines. To customize this table, you must use an Assembler that supports the AMODE and RMODE pseudo operations, such as Assembler H Version 2 or the High Level Assembler.

Most External Analyzers included with the EPA are distributed in source format (COBOL or PL/I) and must be compiled at the user's site. The COBOL programs require VS COBOLII Release 3.0 or later with the NOCMPR2 compiler option. The PL/I programs require the OS PL/I Optimizing Compiler Version1 Release 5.1 or later. Several External Analyzers are provided only in object format and cannot be modified.

Record definitions for Data Files are provided in source format for Assembler, COBOL, PL/I, SQL (DB2) and SAS. These definitions can be copied or included in user-written programs to analyze data extracted by the Analyzer.

Installation

The Edge Portfolio Analyzer is distributed in two files on CD-ROM that must be uploaded to the mainframe. Complete installation takes about thirty minutes.

The first Analyzer file is input to the system IEBUPDTE utility and creates a PDS of 80-character records that contain JCL, copy books, External Analyzers and other members. One member contains JCL to process the second Analyzer file, which creates a load library containing the Analyzer and several auxiliary programs.

Complete product documentation in both hardcopy and Adobe® Acrobat® (PDF) format is provided in four manuals:

With the exception of the General Information Manual, all documentation is licensed material and its use is restricted to customers using the EPA for its intended purpose.
